Registration forms
4th of July
Ordering Ribbons
Concessions
a) Register on time, check in on time for swimming, and do volunteer jobs as scheduled.
b) Stay for the whole meet. Bring lots of water, sunblock, etc.
c) Don't let kids play on the railings, bleachers, in the other pools, or with equipment.
d) NO GLASS anywhere in the facility.
e) NO PARENTS ALLOWED ON DECK. Only certain jobs can go to the lower deck, and they all have a special badge.
a) Champs is the end of summer season. All 6 teams compete in a big meet.
b) The meet is held on July 21, at Stanford's Avery Pool.
a) Long. Assume that you will be there from check in until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. There are over 700 swimmers registered. It is not a good day to bring along your pet or toddler.
b) We don't know. Avery does get hot and so shade, sunblock, and water are a must. There are shady trees outside as well.
c) No. If they didn't cancel last year when it was 106 degrees, I doubt we'll cancel it this year.
a) Registrations are all due no later than end of this week. By July 15 the coaches have the final computer entered assignments.
b) If you swam in two dual meets you can swim at champs.
c) You can swim in up to 3 events and one relay.
a) After July 17, 12 noon, no changes are possible. That gives me a little time to transmit changes to the coaches and head data folks.
b) NO CHANGES ARE POSSIBLE THE DAY OF THE MEET.
c) If you or your swimmer forgot, sorry.
a) We will do swimmer check in at Stanford. This is to make sure the coaches know if all kids have made it. All swimmers need to have completed check in by 8 a.m.
b) Our warmup time is 7:55-8:20. We have 4 lanes for warmup.
c) After 8:20 no swimmers younger than 11 can do a warmup.
d) There is a warmup pool but only swimmers 11 and up can use it. Marshalls will reinforce this. We know this was inconsistently enforced last year, and has been addressed.
a) Check in for parents starts at 7:15. . You must check in before 8:20. We will have a table near the entry area on the upper level.
b) You have to check in for your own job. No child or friend check in. All workers have to be over 18.
c) Also, since all jobs are finalized well in advance the expectation is that you WILL complete your job. You are expected to find a substitute yourself.
d) You are also expected to keep track of where you are supposed to be, so we don't have to search for you when your job starts.
a) Review the job responsibilities. Many jobs differ slightly at champs, and there are a few new ones.
b) MOST of the jobs will have a meeting before the meet starts. For instance, the timers and starters will meet. The clerk of course workers will meet. And so on.
c) You SHOULD attend this meeting, whether you work first or second half. There will be no additional training before second half.
a) Yes. No matter the job, we want you to cheer your child on. We do ask that you let your co-volunteers know, and cover for each other.
a) This has changed from last year. You can sit anywhere in the bleacher area. GM has to clean up one specific area but we can sit at any location (follow the shade).
b) You may NOT, however, block a large body of bleachers for an extended period of time.
a) Each team will have a location over on the grassy hillock beyond the large pools. You must only put tents in that location.
a) Yes, many many rules.
i) No tents on the cement
ii) We cannot use the other large pools even if it gets super hot.
iii) You can bring in outside drink/food but all purchased food/drink will be provided by Stanford. No food is allowed on the pool deck. DO NOT BRING ANY GLASS.
iv) You must cleanup. Each team will get charged (up to $1000) if we do not clean up our designated cleanup areas.
v) We can use the bathrooms but swimmers are NOT supposed to use the showers or hang out in the locker rooms. We are not allowed to use the diving well, ice machines or other equipment. Last year we had many complaints about this.
vi) Last year, there were problems with the plumbing. To prevent this from recurring, Stanford is removing all the paper towels and seat covers from the bathrooms. Only toiler paper will be available. (and soap and water).
vii) Bleachers are not there to be played on. Stanford will enforce this, as will bleacher marshals.
a) Same events, same order. A LOT more kids, so many more heats.
b) To keep things moving, we wont' hold up heats for a missing swimmer….so it is important that your kids understand when they need to report to clerk of the course.
c) Clerk of the course: parents (or kids, or round up clerks) deliver the swimmers to the upper clerk of the course area.
i) Each team will have a designated spot OUTSIDE the chair area. Turn your swimmers over to that person.
ii) It may not be a GM person working as clerk.
iii) Parents and others may NOT enter the chair area. Cheer your swimmer on from outside.
iv) Swimmers are then escorted from the upper clerk of the course area to the lower clerk of the course area, on the pool deck.
v) From there, they go to the correct starting blocks for their swim.
vi) Younger swimmers will be escorted to the blocks, and from the finish area back to upper clerk of the course area.
a) This means that you may NOT bring your young swimmers to the deck or starting block area.
b) Please make sure you review this with your swimmers ahead of time.
